The Bigger They Are…

Monday, April 27th, 2015

“I defy the armies of Israel this day:

give me a man, that we may fight together.”

Goliath, speaking in 1 Samuel 17:10

THAT, my friends, is the way the enemy speaks to the child of God ~ in a word, INTIMIDATION.

It comes in various forms: accusation, threats, depression, shame, fear, etc. ~ but it’s all designed to intimidate God’s people by keeping them focused on their own inadequacy, on the greatness of their problems, and leaving them bound up in fear and unbelief.

Goliath looked absolutely UNDEFEATABLE… And he was, so long as God’s people failed to believe in His power and promise

“Who is this uncircumcised Philistine,

that he should defy the armies of the living God?”

David, speaking in 1 Samuel 17:28

THAT, my friends, is the way a servant of God speaks who has HAD ENOUGH of the enemy’s intimidation tactics – one who realizes that the time to honor God with faith is RIGHT NOW

Intimidation is a lie.  It’s all the enemy’s got to hold you back from fulfilling God’s will for your life.  And when a servant decides to trust God – come hell or high water – and leave all the consequences with Him, there is a trembling in the enemy’s camp.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear,

but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

2 Timothy 1:7

Goliath is hollering loud and long at the American Church today… The enemy intends to threaten and intimidate true followers of Jesus (those who still believe and follow the Bible) into submission, till we’re too afraid to live our faith and too ashamed to speak in Jesus’ name.

How our nation needs to see men and women “after God’s own heart” (Acts 13:22) like David!  The hour is late, the day is dark, and the battle has come to our front door… It is time for God’s people to WAKE UP and to:

1. REMEMBER His faithfulness to you in battles past:

The Lord, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.”

1 Samuel 17:37

2. RECOGNIZE that the battles facing you are ultimately SPIRITUAL (you are not wrestling with flesh and blood):

“You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin.

But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts…

for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give you into our hands.”

1 Samuel 17:45, 47

As the Philistine moved closer to attack him,

David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him.”

1 Samuel 17:48

No more hiding out, saving self, covering tail ~ The time is NOW for us to RUN TO THE BATTLE and watch God give you the VICTORY over the enemy’s lies and schemes!

So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone…

Then David ran and stood over the Philistine and took his sword… and cut off his head with it.

1 Samuel 17:50-51

And having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

Colossians 2:15

HALLELUJAH!  Jesus has ALREADY WON the war ~ now you’re not fighting FOR the victory, you’re fighting FROM the victory.  So RISE UP, child of God, and believe Him for victory in your life again!  Take back the ground the enemy has stolen – because it all belongs to Jesus

Call out for His power and presence, confess the promises of His Word over your life each morning, and put His praises and thanksgiving on your lips every night!  You do the possible, and JESUS will do the rest by the might and power of His Holy Spirit.  GOLIATHS ARE FALLING… The time to trust Him for victory is RIGHT NOW!

May the Lord strengthen and anoint you this week,

Just as He said

Monday, April 6th, 2015

“He is not here;

He has risen,

Just as He said.”

Matthew 28:6, NIV

Jesus did exactly what He said; satan could not stop Him… a grave could not contain Him… not even death itself could keep Jesus from fulfilling every promise, just as He said.

What promise has God said to you?

“You know with all your heart and soul

that not one of all the good promises

the Lord your God gave you has failed.”

Joshua23:14 NIV

God speaks promises into the lives of His children ~ visions of being used by Him, of bearing good fruit, and seeing Jesus glorified through our lives.

But time slips by, life happens, seasons change, dreams fade, and the very promises God made us can seem as if they’ve been laid in a tomb, as dead as the cold stone sepulcher that held Jesus.  And yet…

If God spoke it,

God will yet bring it to pass for you

as you believe Him.

And it doesn’t matter how impossible it looks…

Like a child of promise that tarries till daddy-to-be is 100…

Or a promise of honor that finds its fulfillment through rejection by family, false accusation by employers, and long years of feeling forgotten and left to die in an Egyptian prison…

Or the promise of a homeland that lingers over 600 years from Abraham till Joshua…

And yet: each of those promises was fulfilled, just as He said

For the vision is yet for an appointed time…

Though it tarries, wait for it;

because it will surely come…

Habakkuk 2:3 NKJV

A word to the weary ~ this word is for some mature saints who have no doubt in God’s goodness, yet who have ceased believing a promise which the Lord Himself spoke into their lives, perhaps many years ago.  This is not some selfish dream or illusion of personal grandeur ~ this is a God-given vision, for His glory:

It is time to start believing again

that God will do what He has said.

Perhaps you’ve felt a stirring in your spirit of late… The refining fires are heating up in your life, and yet the rains of His Spirit are also falling afresh on the soil of your heart, whilst the plow of His Word breaks up the fallow ground of self and unbelief.

It’s not comfortable, but It is the Lord at work in you.  And here’s what He’s after: your Father wants you to believe Him again, because He’s preparing the soil to bring forth a miracle.  God will yet do what He’s spoken, and He’s making you ready.

Don’t be afraid to ask Him: “Father, what promises were truly from You, which YOU desire to bring to pass, in which I’ve given up hope and quit believing?”

And when He shows you, don’t hold back ~ seek Him with all your heart, pray over the promise every day, and ask Him to fulfill His word for His glory.

May the Lord revive His vision and quicken your faith, by His Spirit’s power,

Pastor Matthew Casey
