Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire

While the title of this encouragement isn’t exactly taken from Scripture, the theme certainly is:

He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.

John 8:44

I feel compelled to encourage you to beware the lies of the enemyPeter tells us that the devil is like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8).  And what is that lion roaring at God’s people?  LIES.

He will use discouragement, depression, accusation, seduction, intimidation, threats, imaginations, fears, doubts, worries, shame, condemnation, and a host of other tactics against God’s children – and every one of them is a lie:

  • He’ll tell you that your past wasn’t good, your present isn’t good, and your future won’t be good.
  • He’ll suggest that your ministry is ineffectual, your gifts are inferior, and your time is wasted.
  • He’ll whisper that your foes are too strong, your problems too many, and your battles too great for you.
  • He’ll first accuse you that you aren’t good, that others don’t love or appreciate you, that your family is beyond hope…
  • And then, most insidiously of all, he will conclude that all of this means that your God is not goodthat He hasn’t been good to you, hasn’t cared for you, and can’t be trusted to guide and provide in the future.

Many, many of God’s people are under a deluge of demonic lies right now, because the devil knows that his time is short. And he recognizes that the mercy, goodness, and calling of God are in and on your life.

The enemy sees that you are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works which He prepared beforehand that you should walk in them (Eph. 2:10).  GOD HAS A PLAN TO USE YOU FOR HIS GLORY, to touch lives with Jesus’ love through you, and to let His living waters flow through your life to the dying and needy world around you.

So how is the devil going to counteract God’s plan and calling for you?  LIES!  He seeks to keep you preoccupied and distracted with doubts, fears, discouragement, accusation – ANYTHING to keep your focus off your Father’s love.  If the devil can’t have your soul, he’ll try to steal your effectiveness… and all too often, the people of God let him!

The American Church tends to be a rather passive lot, but Scripture tell us we’re in a battle (Eph. 6, 1 Peter 5) – and the battleground is no place to sleepIt’s a place to fight – for the glory of God and the good of lost souls.

If you have been under the cloud of the enemy’s lies lately – whether discouragement, temptation, accusation, fear, or any other – I exhort you to FIGHT BACK!  God will help us in a myriad of ways, but He won’t swing the Sword for us – that’s our job (Eph. 6:17).

It’s time for us to STAND in Jesus’ authority, SPEAK His Word, and CONFESS His goodness and His praises!  REMEMBER what a faithful Friend He’s been to you, FIX your eyes upon the Cross of Christ and the sinless Blood He shed for you, and CHOOSE to live for the REAL reward: bringing glory to Jesus on that great and glorious Day!

My friends, THERE IS A THRONE… and every soul, both the great and the small, will come before those eyes of fire individually.  Many who put themselves first in this life will be last, and many who put themselves last and served others in small and obscure places and ways will be known as great ones on that day.

If your treasure is Jesus, then your reward is sure.  Now is the time to pick up your shield, swing your sword, and put on the garments of praise again.  Cast off and renounce the lies of the enemy, and confess God’s truth and promises over your life, family, and situations.

The joy of the Lord is your strength, child of Goddon’t let the devil steal your joy, your song, or your confidence in your Father’s love.  Surely goodness and mercy will follow you all the days of your life, and you will dwell in the house of the Lord forever!

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.

Ephesians 6:10

May the Lord richly bless you, and use you for His glory,

Matthew Casey
