A New Year’s word…

Friday, December 31st, 2010
Dear Friends,
A New Year is nearly upon us… and I am convinced that God desires to do a mighty, fresh, new work in His people in the year ahead.  However, our ability to experience and express His power in 2011 hinges upon our learning to abide in His Presence every day – not just during times of worship or prayer.  We must learn to abide under the shadow of His wings like never before, for as we abide, we thrive… and when we fail to abide, we become dry.
Tonight I was reading a recent David Wilkerson devotional about spiritual dryness, and came upon this quote:
“Without the nearness of God, there can be no peace. The dryness can be stopped only with the dew of His glory.”
It reminded me of Psalm 16:11, which tells us that “In Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures evermore.”  PRAISE GOD that we are going to live in His Presence and manifest glory forever!  Yet He desires that we learn to live there – in growing measure – every day.  How can we do so?  By simple, childlike faith in His care, in His Father’s heart of love for us, and in His abiding presence within us by His Holy Spirit.
No matter how you feel right now, no matter how trials or temptations may be buffeting you, no matter what doubt or discouragement tries to assail your soul – your Savior is here, nearer than your next breath, listening to your every prayer, numbering each hair on your head, and perfecting what concerns you.  He will not fail you through this time of storm or suffering, and He will bring you into a richer, fuller place of joy in His Presence.  All the battles will bear the fruit of blessing as you keep seeking Him and receiving His love.
The year ahead will be full of His goodness, His faithful love, and His mighty power on behalf of His children.  Ask God for fresh hunger to seek Him, fresh faith to believe His promises, and fresh grace to abide in His Presence – every moment, every day – in 2011.
Much love & blessings to you in our Messiah,

Living Waters…

Pull Aside, Draw Near, and Drink the Living Waters…

Thanksgiving is behind us, Christmas draws near, and New Year’s Eve will be upon us before we know it.  Amid all the busyness and activities of our lives, I believe the Father wants us to pull aside, draw near to Him, and let His Spirit minister those waters of refreshing that we so desperately need.

God’s greace is greater than your need, and your foes will not be allowed to defeat you Some of us are facing seemingly insurmountable needs this season, both spiritually and physically.  It can be easy to ask “Why? Why would my Father let all these issues of life press in on me simultaneously?  My foes are so many, and beyond my strength to fight them all… I feel overwhelmed – this is more than I can bear.”

Truly, it IS more than you can bear – and all that touches your life right now is allowed to press you out of human measure (2 Cor. 1:8) and into the sustenance of God.  All confidence in the flesh will be smashed, and confidence in your Father’s love will be refined and strengthened through these storms.  The One who will not fail or forsake you (Heb. 13:5-6) has promised to supply your every need (Phil. 4:19), to answer the thirsty with provision (Is. 41:17), and to do exceedingly, abundantly above and beyond all you could ask or think (Eph. 3:20).

All you need is in His grace and power; but remember, His power starts when ours has run out.  His supply of living waters begin to flow when we turn from the cisterns of our own efforts and making, and rely on Him alone as the only answer to our needs.  Your efforts, no matter how well-intentioned, cannot do what His power must accomplish.  And His power comes not through our trying, but trusting.  His grace is more than enough, for His power is made perfect in your weakness (2 Cor. 12:9).

Your Father sees, He knows, He cares… and He will help you.  He’s watching over each moment of this battle you’re in, and guarding every hair of your head.  He loves you with a love greater than life and stronger than death, and He has sealed your eternity in the Blood of His own Son.  He’s not brought you this far to fail you now, precious child of God.  He’s with you, for you, around you, and within you.  Stop looking at the giants and the foes, the waves and the wind, and start calling on His holy and all-powerful name!  Remember all the battles He’s brought you through, and choose to thank Him for His love and goodness.  You shall see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living once again (Ps. 27:13); and your life will be a greater testimony to the faithful love of our Savior.

May His presence and peace surround you this season, and as we enter the New Year…

Love & blessings in our Messiah,

Pastor Matthew Casey
